Rolfing®
Structural Integration
Rolfing® Structural Integration is a sophisticated and holistic form of bodywork that focuses on bringing the whole mind-body into optimal alignment.

Physical pain and discomfort are often the result of imbalances in the body's structure. Years of posture habits and recovery from numerous injuries, leads to compensating patterns in the body which can then cause pain.

Rolfers™ analyze the body's structure and function (movement) and work to release patterns of holding that inhibit Your optimal alignment. We work toward organization and alignment in your whole structure so You can efficiently stack and support Your body.

Through the process of the Rolfing 10 Series™, client and Rolfer™ work together to remap your whole body in your brain.
This increases the 3 main neurological pathways of sensation:
Proprioception- Sensing where you are in space and time,
Interoception- Sensing what is happening inside of You,
Exteroception- Sensing what is happening outside of You.
More sensory information allows for a more efficient, adaptable mind-body that can flow through life.
Creating alignment throughout your mind-body allows for increased Ease in Your body, Adaptability in Your movements, and Support for Your whole structure.

What makes Rolfing® Different?
Rolfing® works in a Holistic way. We look at the body as one continuous and interconnected whole. So instead of just treating the symptoms of aches and pains, we look for the underlining causes. Unraveling Your three-dimensional puzzle through awareness, presence, and remapping.

Awareness of you structure and movement patterns empowers You with the choice to discard what isn't working for you anymore, or is causing you discomfort and pain, and embrace the structure You want to create.

Posture and Movement are habits developed over time. In order to align Your structure, we will not only work with the tissue of Your body through myofascial techniques, but also Your motor pathways through movement education. We focus on creating a sense of support and adaptability in Your body to make movement as effortless as possible.

We recognize that stress and a heightened sympathetic nervous system leads to numerous problems in the body. Easing the nervous system into rest and digest mode, gives the body space to naturally find its center and alignment. Clinched jaws, rock solid shoulders, and abdominal pain are all often caused by stress. By relaxing the nervous system, we address all of the aches, pains, and disorganization stress causes.

Mind and Body are interconnected. Many of our emotions are held in our tissue. As we map Your body and release restrictions in the tissue, we may also release emotions locked in there too. Our posture directly effects our emotions. Anxiety and depression may be aggravated by posture. Awareness of Your body gives you tools to choose how Your posture effects Your mood.
The 10 Series
Holism means the whole body. The Rolfing 10 Series™ is a formula for us to address the whole body in incremental sections. We peel away each layer of restriction,
giving You time to integrate the new sensations and movement patterns after
each session.
Sessions 1-3 work with the outer layers of tissue, increasing breath and
spaciousness in Your whole body.
Sessions 4-7 work with the core layers of tissue, increasing stability, support,
and adaptability in movement.
Sessions 8-10 work to integrate Your whole body, so that
you feel a continuous web of ease and flow in
Your mind-body.
"Intention is Attention.
Intentionality allows for the becoming of Harmony."

Frequently
Asked Questions
Does Rolfing® hurt?
Rolfing has evolved! We have learned that we can achieve great results without using excessive pressure. Although this type of body work can feel intense, it should never hurt. Certain parts of Your body can be sensitive and remapping Your body in Your brain can take a lot of energy. Please always feel comfortable to inform your practitioner if there is any pain or discomfort. You are in control of every session and we always want to honor your needs and boundaries.

What are the benefits of bodywork and Rolfing® structural integration?
Bodywork can help release chronic muscular tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue, improve posture and balance, and reduce blood pressure. Bodywork is also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and create an overall sense of well-being.

Rolfing® adds to the benefits of bodywork, by bringing real awareness of Your whole mind-body. Not only addressing the symptoms of the body, but organizing Your structure to alleviate the deep underlying causes of pain. Rolfing® works with the motor neurons to give You many options of how to be in the world.

What should I do during the Rolfing® structural integration session?
This is Your time to become fully aware of your body. Please use this time to be an active participant in your self-care. Prior to the session, feel free to ask the practitioner any questions about the technique or the upcoming session. During the Rolfing® session, make yourself comfortable. Your therapist may ask you to do active movements, deep breaths, or to just take time and relax as deeply as possible. And always feel free to express your needs (more or less pressure, explain sensations arising, or pointing out a spot that needs some love).

What time should I arrive for my appointment?
If this is your first session with us, please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment to fill out paperwork. Otherwise please arrive 5 - 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment.

What is the cancellation or late arrival policy?
We understand that unanticipated events happen occasionally in everyone’s life. In our desire to be effective and fair to all clients, the following policies are honored:

24 hour advance notice is required when cancelling an appointment. This allows the opportunity for someone else to schedule an appointment. If you are unable to give us 24 hours advance notice you will be charged the full service fee for that appointment.

This time is an investment into your well-being. We understand that life happens and you may run late. Out of respect and consideration to other clients scheduled after you, if you are late, you will only receive the amount of time remaining of your scheduled appointment. You will be charged the full service fee for your reserved time.Thank you for your understanding.

What happens if I "No-show"?
Your therapist works hard to create a wonderful space for your well being. Anyone who either forgets or consciously chooses to forgo their appointment for whatever reason, or is "too late", will be considered a “no-show.” The full service fee will be charged for their “missed” appointment.

How do package rates work?
When you buy a Rolfing® Structural Integration package, it is good for one year from the date of purchase. Packages are non-refundable. But they may be transferable. You may purchase a package before any session, or after your session, the purchase price then covers that session.

Must I be completely undressed?
No. These are dynamic sessions, meaning you will be asked in the middle of a session to stand up and walk around or do vertical movements. We often want to work "in gravity," so Rolfing® Structural Integration sessions are performed with a "Rolfing Uniform," (sports wear or swim suit style clothing). For men this is usually a swim suit, workout shorts, or underwear. For women this is usually a two piece swim suit, sports bra and underwear, or workout shorts.

Will I be covered during the session?
During Rolfing® Structural Integration sessions you will be clothed and therefore only draped if you are cold.

Do I have to do the whole 10 Series to receive the benefits of Rolfing®?
The 10 Series is a great way to organize and remap Your whole body, but You may receive benefits from just one session. We advise certain stopping points if You do not want to finish the 10 sessions. Because the 10 Series is a organized formula to address the whole You, we never want to leave Your mind-body hanging. Integration is paramount. After sessions One, Three, or Seven, may be good stopping points.

Are there any medical conditions that would make bodywork inadvisable?
Yes. That's why it is very important that you inform the practitioner of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor's care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for bodywork prior to any session. Depending on the condition, approval from your doctor may be required.
